In the spirit of this rabbit hole was incredibly cool, I have found a website listing a ton of detailed information on decommissioned airports. It’s clearly run by someone who, for lack of a better term, is an plane-oppo.
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
The greedy gimme my 60 points self doesn’t want to share this, but the I hope other oppo rally players go explore some cool stuff side says I need to share this guy’s work. He’s been going at it since 1999!

Thanks, I found one within a reasonable drive from here, and there is a bridge up there too that will net some points too. Rubber Chicken Here we go.

I’ve gone down that rabbit hole before.
I’m not rallying, but I do know where one of those spots is in NJ, and it’s still there.

I’ve been there before looking for pics of Grumman Airport sometime when I wanted info on that. I found it a little overwhelming for this, but luckily was able to spot one when looking at satellite maps of other things.
Somewhat related note, the AOPA website has an airport search that lets you find grass fields: https://www.aopa.org/destinations/search?ne=42.6361200,-70.6712668&sw=41.8794176,-72.1544211&grass=1 It was a little buggy for me, but I was able to get what I wanted with a little URL manipulation. Also of the first four grass strips I looked at, one was long dead, one more recently dead, one was closed in favor of a paved strip at the same airport, and one was operation, so make sure you check before driving.

Same experience for me.

Yes it’s on the bridge’s list. For some reason we really don’t have that many huge bridges in Montana .

Whoa, there are way more airfields than I thought.

Nice, thanks for sharing. There’s one near me that I didn’t really know much about other than “it’s a bean field that the internet lists as an airport”

No joke, I spent at least an hour and a half on this site when I found it this week (thanks Oppo Rally!) It’s so cool, and the research & detail is thoughtful beyond belief.

I found this same site while looking for an old airport. It led me to the airport I used. I had known the names Hillsborough Army Air Field and Henderson F ield , but didn’t realize there was a tiny sliver of runway left. It’s odd it still exists after all these years.

Same, though the one near me is a now a quarry and a U-HAUL rental place.

Thanks for that! I just now learned that there’s one near me, and I’ve been to it before.
On further review, I have been to that site before, but just to a specific page from a Google search years ago. I had no idea the site was that extensive!

Sweet. I had no idea where there was one around. Turns out it’s close to another airport I hope has bi- planes.

I love that website. I tried to get one of our data companies to buy them a few years ago but I’m glad they didn’t because they would’ve charged a subscription.

Seems like a great way to export some beans imo

dang...I need some biplane action. There is one near-ish me that was very proud of blip travel back in the day

I’m breaking down and asking for help. My moms cousin used to work for McDonald Douglas before it was Boeing. He has a plane and may be able to lead me in the right direction.
I found a website for pay phone database, but it all seems to be out dated. I tried calling a few of the numbers which were disconnected.
